Vertigo Films…
žVertigo Films is one of the newer film
production companies, based in the UK.
ž
žIt was co-founded by James Richardson,
Allan Niblo and
Nick Love in 2002.
ž
žThey have produced many of their own
films which have become very successful such as ‘StreetDance’ (this was also developed to produce ‘StreetDance 2’)
and ‘The Sweeney’
ž
žVertigo Films is also largely known for
the distribution of British films such as ‘London to Brighton’ and ‘Top Cat’
(collaborating with Warner Bros.)
ž
žHowever, more recently they have
distributed an American film called ‘Spring Breakers’ 2013. This film has been
their most successful distribution yet,
with a worldwide gross total of $16,640,619.
ž
žI think that Vertigo films would be a
good institution to collaborate with when distributing my film as they use good
techniques to receive a worldwide response from a film.
ž
Hammer Film Productions
žHammer Film Productions is also based in
the UK, founded in 1934.
ž
žThey are mostly known for the
distribution of the horror/thriller genre films such as Dracula, Frankenstein,
etc. traditional Gothic films. Once dominating the horror film market.
ž
žThey have also been associated with major
Hollywood studios such as Warner Bros. which would benefit my film if I wanted
to distribute it to America or worldwide.
ž
žOne of their most recent films that they
have distributed is ‘The Woman in Black’ in 2012. This film was their most
successful release, putting it second place in the box office. ‘The Woman in
Black managed to earn $20 million in the opening weekend.
ž
žI think my film would benefit if I
collaborated with this production company as they are familiar with the
distribution of horror films and could successfully make my film well known and
popular.
ž
Film 4 Productions
žFilm four is a British institution owned
by Channel Four Television Corporation.
ž
žFilm 4 has collaborated with many
Hollywood Institutions such as DreamWorks, Fox Searchlights, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros.
ž
žThey have produced and distributed
several award winning British films such as Shaun of the Dead, How to Lose
Friends & Alienate People and The Inbetweeners
Movie.
ž
žMost of the films that this company
produces and distributes are aimed at teenagers and young adults, which is the
age group of my own target audience. This would be beneficial when distributing
my film as Film 4 have a lot of experience and a high success rate from their
own film distribution.
ž
žFurthermore, my questionnaire research
found that Channel 4 was the most popular TV Channel that is watched by my
target audience, meaning that they are more likely to watch my film if it is
distributed by Film 4 as it can be easily advertised and distributed.
